Government of Cyprus

The Government of Cyprus is the central authority that manages the country's affairs. It consists of three main branches: the executive, the legislative, and the judiciary.

Executive Branch

The executive branch is headed by the President of Cyprus. The President is both the head of state and the head of government. The President appoints the Council of Ministers, who are responsible for various government departments.

Legislative Branch

The legislative branch is known as the House of Representatives. It is a unicameral body, meaning it has only one chamber. Members of the House are elected by the people of Cyprus every five years. They create and pass laws that affect the country.

Judiciary Branch

The judiciary branch interprets the laws and ensures they are applied fairly. It consists of various courts, including the Supreme Court of Cyprus. Judges are appointed to ensure justice is served in legal matters.

Local Government

In addition to the central government, Cyprus has local governments that manage regional affairs. These include municipalities and community councils. They handle local issues such as public services and infrastructure.

Role of the Government

The Government of Cyprus plays a crucial role in maintaining order and providing services. It ensures the country's security, manages the economy, and upholds the law. The government also represents Cyprus in international affairs.
